Discover our wide range of cultural heritage - monuments, art, culture, archaeology, music, customs and much more...

Bulgaria is home to a total of 9 sites included in the Unesco World Heritage List. Following them will allow us to get to know a large part of the country's territory and its different historical layers, as well as some of our most curious customs. We will visit the Rila Monastery, the Boyana Church with its frescoes, a masterpiece of European painting, the old town of Nesebar, the Thracian tombs of Svetsari and Kazanlak, the Horseman of Madara, the cave churches of Ivanovo, among others.
Having been the first Slavic-speaking country to adopt Christianity as its official religion and having our own alphabet (Cyrillic), religion has always been an important pillar of our identity. Our ancient churches and monasteries follow the Orthodox tradition and are a centre of spirituality of the Bulgarian people. On this trip we will visit the most important monasteries in the country (Rila, Bachkovo and Troyan) and the churches whose artistic value is considered a masterpiece of iconography and religious art (Boyana Church, Nativity Church in Arbanasi, Dobarsko Church, St. Stephen's Church in Nesebar, the churches of Ivanovo). We will also learn about Orthodox iconography and the different schools over the centuries.
On this trip we invite you to discover our country through its voices and music. A trip to Sofia is enough to have a unique musical experience, enjoying a show at the National Opera, listening to an orthodox choir and the Bulgarian voices, whose singing is world-renowned. If you visit us in summer, you cannot miss one of the numerous classical music festivals: The Wagner Festival at the Sofia Opera, Opera Open Festival at the Roman Theatre in Plovdiv, Opera of the Peaks in a unique setting among the rocks of Belogradchik, etc.
Bulgaria offers an eclectic view of its architectural heritage. In our cities we can see typical national Renaissance houses, aristocratic buildings and communist architecture. In the villages, declared architectural reserves, we will visit different examples of these styles depending on the area we are in. The brutalism of communist buildings is present throughout the trip.
We Bulgarians still keep our folklore very much alive. It is common to find people dancing ‘horo’ in the streets, in family celebrations or in dance classes... The country has seven very different folklore zones, and on this trip we propose to discover them, immersing ourselves in the stories, music, costumes and dances of Thrace, Dobrudzha, Pirin, the Rhodopes - cradle of the national instrument ‘the kaba bagpipe’ - and the north, with its fast dances and diversity of dialects. We will listen to the Rhodope bagpipes and chat with a bagpipe craftsman, learn to dance ‘horo’ and get to know authentic costumes of the Pirin folklore area.
Bulgaria is hospitality and it is most present in the villages. We will enjoy the cultural heritage, fresh air and traditional cuisine. We will visit towns and villages with amazing Renaissance architectural models such as Koprivshtitsa, Zheravna, Shiroka Laka, Bozhentsi, Arbansi, etc. and others where we will get to know the local customs and products, as well as learn how to cook typical dishes.
If you only have a few days available, the best way to get a first impression of our country is to stay in its vibrant capital and visit three jewels of our cultural heritage: the Boyana Church and the Rila Monastery (both declared World Heritage Sites by Unesco), and the old town of Plovdiv. We complete the visits with a special touch depending on the season of your visit: walking in the Rila forests, tasting the wines of Thrace and the Danube plain, visiting the markets of Sofia, bathing in the hot springs of the capital, or attending a concert at the National Opera.
